The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project is a dropout prevention, mentoring program committed to closing the minority male achievement (access) gap by guiding minority male students along a carefully charted path through grades K-12 and college or ensuring the attainment of other post-secondary credentials, and increasing their employability in higher-wage, high skills jobs within high demand industries. The program also teaches participants to respect law enforcement, the law, women, school officials, and parents. Students are also exposed to valuable educational and leadership opportunities that are designed to develop and strengthen their leadership skills. The students and adult mentors wear a distinctive uniform consisting of black pants, a white dress shirt, and a 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project signature necktie. 

The Dancing Dolls is Lauderdale Lakes Middle's dance team that affords students an opportunity to explore different types of dance along with students who share similar interests. Dancing Dolls is open to students of all experience and abilities. 

The Speech & Debate course at Lauderdale Lakes Middle Middle will help students develop not only public speaking skills, but will also help develop critical thinking, reading, writing, and listening skills that can be used in every class.

The FAU Talent Search is a free pre-college program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education designed to identify and assist scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds in the 6th – 12th grades at target schools in Broward County School District with the potential to enroll in post-secondary school after high school. The program provides its participants with academic, career, and financial counseling and encourages them to graduate from high school and complete their post-secondary education.

FAU Talent Search aims to enhance academic performance, increase inspiration, introduce students to college campuses, publicize financial aid availability, and assist participants with the post-secondary application process.

Purpose

FAU Talent Search seeks to meet the following goal for its participants:

• Familiarize participants with the college admission, selection, and financial aid application process
• Assess and guide participants’ interests in professional careers
• Increase the financial literacy of both the student and parents
• Teach participants how to explore career and colleges
• Improve their school performance persistence
• Motivate participants to maximize their academic and personal potential

The Talent Search Team will be available to discuss college awareness and conduct career assessments to explore career majors and pathways in the classroom setting or after-school workshops for students and parents.

Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA), a pre-collegiate and collegiate teacher recruitment program, provides a forum for students to become aware of career opportunities in education and nurtures their interest in teaching as a career. It also provides an avenue for collegiate members to stay informed of the latest issues and advancements in the education profession.

Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders (MTL) is a peer-to-peer mentoring and student leadership program that serves youth who are at-risk for not graduating and/or remaining in school. The program aims to decrease dropout rates, particularly among minority males, to ensure successful school graduation.

MTL is based on the following five pillars:

1. Academic Achievement – Students in 9th and 10th grade who earned below a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) are assigned an Academic Coach (a caring adult) and student mentor. Ongoing support includes a study hall for learning academic skills in a quiet, structured environment at least twice per week. The coach and mentor provide monitoring to set goals for increasing academic progress.
2. Mentoring – High achieving upperclassmen (3.0 GPA or above) with demonstrated leadership skills participate in a two-year mentor relationship with students who have earned less than a 2.0 GPA. This is a structured relationship that is facilitated by MTL program staff. All MTL students are connected to adult role models and mentors from the community during monthly workshops with guest speakers.
3. Family Involvement – MTL parents and guardians attend monthly parent education workshops to cover topics such as graduation requirements, grading, stages of adolescent development, academic needs of adolescents.
4. Community Support – Community members volunteer to serve as adult mentors and role models, guest speakers at parent and student workshops, as well as donors, sponsors and members of the MTL Advisory Board. Representatives from colleges interact with MTL students to present pathways for post-secondary education.
5. Incentives – Program participants earn several incentives as they work to improve their grades and meet high school graduation requirements. Student mentors also earn incentives as they inspire their peers to achieve academic excellence. These incentives include visits to local colleges, college tour field trips throughout Florida, and recognition within the school and community.

The Orange Bowl Leadership & Character Academy will provide students the opportunity to dream and develop a plan to achieve those dreams, to set and achieve personal goals and objectives, and to understand their options in life for success at home, their careers, and in the community.

Orange Bowl will be geared towards delivering the following desired outcomes:

1. Inspire and unleash individual youth potential and leadership
2. Create career development awareness, knowledge, and opportunities
3. Positively impact support systems for youth participants: teachers, parents, and coaches
4. Foster character development and responsibility geared to elevating individual empowerment, efficacy, and self-esteem (such core values as responsibility, kindness, consideration, and respect)

Students meet after school from 2:40 to 3:30 to learn about robotics, flying drones, and requisite skills.

The Student Government Association at Lauderdale Lakes Middle School is a student-led group representing the interest of all students in the decision-making process. SGA's elected student representatives and general assembly members work with teachers and administrators to positively impact the school culture and environment through events, activities and fundraising.

Who can participate in SGA?

The Student Government Association is made up of two groups, the elected council, and the general assembly. While any current Lauderdale Lakes Middle School student can participate in SGA and voice their opinions through the general assembly, only elected representatives can vote on issues or bring matters to the SGA floor.
